Eric I. Sturdza

Eric Sturdza graduated with a “Licence ès Sciences Commerciales et Economiques”  and a Master of Science degree from HEC Lausanne. He devoted his career to banking and wealth management and has held senior leadership positions in various banks and asset management firms as portfolio and marketing manager.

  • In 1970, he started his career at Banque de l’Indochine in Lausanne in the portfolio management department.
  • In 1971, he joined Banque Ormond Burrus in Geneva. By 1972, he was in charge of the fund and portfolio management department alongside the associates.
  • In 1975, he joined Kidder Peabody to set up their finance company KIPECO, which he developed successfully.
  • From 1978 to 1985, he worked at Citibank Geneva, where he held a unique position as portfolio manager and market manager responsible for several countries both locally and globally.
  • In 1984, Baring Brothers (the oldest and most prestigious merchant bank from London) recruited him to set up its finance company in Geneva in 1985. In 1988, he transformed it into Banque Baring Brothers (Suisse) S.A.
  • In 1995, following the acquisition of Baring by the ING Group, he purchased a 30% share of the bank, which was renamed Banque Baring Brothers Sturdza S.A. In 2005, Eric Sturdza acquired 100% of the bank’s shares, keeping the name Baring until 2016 when it was renamed Banque Eric Sturdza.
  • In 1999, Eric Sturdza opened what is today E.I. Sturdza Investments, an asset management division based in Guernsey, with offices in London, Paris, Zurich, and Geneva, and a select group of professional and exceptional investment managers globally. This created a network spanning Asia, North America, South America, and Europe.
  • During the 2008-2009 financial crisis, he expanded the bank’s network by creating a second bank. He hired several former senior UBS executives, as UBS was struggling due to the subprime crisis. This second bank opened in April 2009 and developed successfully until its sale in September 2018 to Investcorp International.
  • In 2013, he acquired the third-party asset management company Coges (Corraterie Gestion) and others. These companies are now part of the Eric Sturdza Group.
  • As of July 2021, Eric Sturdza is the President of the Eric Sturdza Group and a Board member of Banque Eric Sturdza.
